NEW BRITAIN - A man was being treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation that resulted from a fire in his third floor apartment at 57-59 Walnut St. Wednesday morning.
The call for the fire came in at 9:26 a.m., Deputy Chief Paul Walsh said.
Crews found smoke and fire extending outside the building upon arrival, Walsh said.
It took about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, without needing to make a ventilation hole in the roof, Walsh said. It was contained to only the third floor apartment, which received extensive damage, Walsh said.
“Our guys did a great job,” said Walsh.
The cause is under investigation. The building contains 21 units. It is not immediately clear how many people will be displaced by the fire.
