NEW BRITAIN - The New Britain branch of the NAACP will host its annual Freedom Fund Dinner at the end of the month with the theme, “When We Fight, We Win.”

Everyone is encouraged to show support at the event on Friday, Sept. 27, at the St. George Hellenic Center, 301 W. Main St. The reception will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a dinner program at 7 p.m.

The annual event helps to support the organization’s mission, which is to fight against racial hatred, racial discrimination and social injustices. It also strives to fight for economic sustainability, education, health, public safety, and voting rights and political representation.

The keynote speaker of the event will be Sonserae Cicero, manager of human resources at Walgreens Corp.

As part of the Freedom fund tradition, the event will also honor four influential black leaders from the greater New Britain community, who have remained steadfast in their efforts to fight against inequality and discrimination that is on the rise in the country, according to the organization.

Tickets for the event are $75 per person, which includes a one-year membership in the NAACP.

The NAACP is also looking for business and individual sponsorships for the event.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 860-944-1237 or online at

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation’s oldest and largest nonpartisan civil rights organization.
