NEW BRITAIN - Mayor Erin Stewart hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday for Jeweled Hair Lounge and Beauty Spa, a family owned hair store and salon in the downtown area.

“It’s great to have another new business in downtown New Britain and to have more options for buying beauty products and a beauty salon. We have a lot of beautiful women in town and to have another place for them to come to get beautified is wonderful,” said Stewart. “I think with it being a family owned business with a family that lives in New Britain is even better, it’s really showing a lot of pride in our city and wanting to be a part of our downtown business community.”

Jeweled, at 44 Main St., can be a one stop shop for many consumers. There is a beauty shop in front, where you can buy hair care products, hair extensions, weaves, eyelashes and more. Then make your way to the beauty salon in the back to have your hair styled, colored, your weave put in, lashes put on by a certified lash tech or get your makeup done by their in house makeup artist.

“Every girl that comes in we try to empower them, make them feel beautiful, make them feel like the queens that they are,” said Adrian Goodwin, one of the owners and the marketing manager.

Both the store and salon are open seven days a week 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.

“Sundays when I come down I provide continental breakfast for our customers; they like that,” said Goodwin. “They love the royal treatment that they get here so that’s what keeps them coming back.”

Malisa Morris and her two daughters, Adrian Goodwin and Kyra Morris, combined their ideas and talents to open up Jeweled back on Aug. 29, 2019.

“I wanted to do the beauty supply store because I’m always going to Hartford to buy my hair and I got tired of doing that drive especially sometimes when you buy the wrong product and you have to take that trip all the way back,” said Malisa Morris one of the owners. “I’m finding out a lot of people that come from here (New Britain) go to Hartford so we want to change that.”

Kyra Morris’s makeup artistry and wig customization influenced the idea for the addition of the salon.

“Jeweled Hair Lounge and Beauty Spa was a vision and dream I had for a long time,” said Kyra Morris, one of the owners and stylist. “We want the people to have access to good products and professional services.”

Malisa and Kyra Morris drove by the space multiple times on a day-to-day basis and once they decided they wanted to move forward with making their dream a reality they knew this was the perfect space to do it. The renovations only took about three months as it was already a well maintained space. Feedback from customers has been very positive.

“They say it’s something different, it’s new, it’s what New Britain needs and they get tired of driving to Hartford so they are happy to have us here in the neighborhood,” said Goodwin.

During the grand opening, Jeweled included a back-to-school backpack drive where they handed out over 50 backpacks filled with all different types of school supplies. They’re looking into doing prom drives and giving discounts for CCSU students to bring in the youth.

“We want to help the community by offering a range of beauty workshops, as well as helping others to start their own businesses. We will be allowing others who do not have a brick and mortar building, but have good products to have their products featured in our store,” said Kyra Morris.

Jeweled not only hopes to build their business, but build the community as well.

“We don’t just want their money we want to give back to them, as well, support them and empower them and let other young girls know that they can do the same thing too,” said Malisa Morris.
