NEW BRITAIN - A man who ran off after a two-car accident near the intersection of Russwin Avenue and Underhill Lane is sought by police.

The accident happened around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Angel Caraballo, 38, of Rockfall, said he was driving his Acura sedan north on Russwin Avenue when a Ford sedan pulled out in front of him from Underhill Lane. Caraballo tried to stop but ended up clipping the Ford, he said.

The Acura received front end damage to its driver-side wheel area. Skid marks could be seen behind the car.

The Ford ended up off the road. It received damage to its rear passenger side and lost a bumper.

Caraballo said he was unsure what happened immediately after the collision, but said people from homes surrounding the accident came out to make sure he was OK. He was not injured, he said.

As those same people went to the Ford to check on its occupant, the man ran away, Caraballo said.

Police at the scene confirmed that it was a man who took off from the car, but supplied no further description of him. They are chasing leads, they said. The car is registered to a woman, police said, but they would not identify her.

Caraballo and the other man were the only people in the cars at the time of the crash.

Police offered no further updates on the incident Thursday evening.
