Mayor Stewart announces holiday house decorating contest in New Britain

NEW BRITAIN - This holiday season Mayor Erin Stewart is inviting city residents to take part in the Mayor’s Merry and Bright Holiday House Decorating Contest, according to a press release from the city.

All homes decorated with festive winter lights are encouraged to take part.

“We hope that this contest brings some additional holiday cheer to our community this year,” said Stewart. “New Britain has a long tradition of house decorating during the Christmas season, filling many with wonderful holiday memories over the years. I look forward to seeing all the lights and displays!”

There is no fee for this contest. Register your home or nominate your neighbor’s home by visiting the New Britain Parks and Recreation Department office or online at www.NBParksNRec.org . Judging will be done by the mayor and some very special elves.

Prizes will be awarded in five categories: Best Holiday Spirit, Classic Holiday, Best in Show, “Clark Griswold” Award and Most Creative. The deadline to register your home or nominate a neighbor’s home will be Friday, Dec. 13, at 3:45 p.m. Judging will take place on Monday, Dec. 16.

Those entering should be sure to have the festive outside light display on by 5 p.m. this day. Winners will be contacted on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
