NEW BRITAIN – Two new board members, Jerrell Hargraves and Thomas Mills, have joined the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain to serve multi-year board terms.
“The Foundation is pleased to have Jerrell Hargraves and Pastor Mills to join our Board,” said Paul Zagorsky, board chair. “We look forward to working with them as our organization continues to be visible, relevant, and impactful in the communities we serve.”
Established in 1941, the foundation is a philanthropic nonprofit organization that services Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington.
Hargraves, a longtime city resident, currently serves as the human rights and opportunities officer for the city. He is a New Britain High School graduate and serves on the board of directors for New Britain Public Library. Hargraves also previously served on the Common Council from 2015-17 and said he has been fortunate enough to be involved in many aspects of his community. During his free time, he is also a youth basketball coach with over 15 years of experience.
Thomas Mills is an adult probation officer for the state and is the senior pastor as Grace Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in New Britain. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club of New Britain and has volunteered for CCARC, services for adults with intellectual disabilities, and the Hospital of Central Connecticut in the past.
The two new members were officially welcomed at the first board meeting Wednesday. Retiring members Mark Bernacki, Cori Humes, and Ken Malinowski were thanked for their service at the finaly 2019 meeting in December.
In other changes, Lynn Ricci, president and CEO for Hospital for Special Care, completed her services as board chair and Paul Zagorsky of Zagorsky, Zagorsky, & Galske, will serve a two-year term with Art Schaller, president of Schaller Auto World, serving as vice chair beginning 2020.
