NEW BRITAIN – Angelo’s Market has remained open during the pandemic and has made the necessary adjustments to welcome patrons back for restaurant dining.

“We are doing outdoor dining and indoor as well now that it is allowed as long as the tables are apart,” said Ann Tropea, the owner’s wife. “We took out three of the tables inside to put outside.”

Prior to the pandemic, Angelo’s, a gourmet Italian deli in New Britain, had an outdoor seating area of about two or three tables they have now expanded. With this addition they are now offering dine-in, outside seating, curbside, takeout and delivery versus just the takeout and delivery only options they were offering throughout the shutdown.

“It has been slow, but people are starting to slowly come back,” Tropea said. “Some people are still doing the curbside pickup, but most people have been coming in for lunch.”

The restaurant does require everyone to wear a mask when they enter the restaurant, including the employees.

“My employees are constantly washing their hands; we’ve always worn gloves anyways and change our gloves with every new person we’re dealing with, that’s always been our standard procedure here,” Tropea said.

Angelo’s, a family-owned business located at 349 W. Main St., has been serving the community for over 60 years. They offer an array of sandwiches, grinders, pizzas, stuffed bread, soups, salads, eggplant parmesan bread and have a kid’s menu available.

“We are doing catering orders and some are still individually bagged for people,” Tropea said. “Some days are very quiet, some days we have a little more foot traffic. But we’re going day by day.”

Angelo’s is open Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and is closed on Sundays.
