NEW BRITAIN – Foodshare is hosting its first-ever Virtual Walk Against Hunger to continue to provide relief for people struggling with hunger.
This 37th annual event, which takes place now until Sept. 19, will also support long-term efforts for increased access to healthy food while addressing the underlying issues that contribute to hunger.
Participants are encouraged to find their own 1.5 mile course to walk in a way that keeps themselves and their community safe. Foodshare will celebrate and share everyone’s participation on social media and continue traditions of fun, community building, with special surprises all week long.
Today was the Walk Week Kickoff Day, where participants wore their favorite football gear.
Tuesday is Yard Goat’s Day, where participants wear Hartford Yard Goats apparel.
Wednesday is Community Pride Day, where participants wear something representing the town or city where they live.
Thursday is Throwback Thursday, where participants get a chance to show off a vintage Walk Against Hunger or Foodshare apparel.
Friday concludes the celebration with Fancy Friday, where participants can lose the sweatpants and get all dolled up and walk in style.
Among the benefiting agencies for the fundraiser are FoodShare, the Friendship Service Center and Newington Human Services/Food Bank.
