NEW BRITAIN – The League of Women Voters New Britain is hosting its annual legislative “brunch” Saturday to give residents a chance to connect with their local state legislators.

The virtual “Legislative Unbreakfast:2021” will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Zoom due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic. Those who plan to attend can email questions beforehand to lwvnb@lwvct.org. The Zoom audience will also be able to type questions in the “Q&A” feature on their Zoom screen. The zoom link is at: https://bit.ly/392uhrE

Co-Hosts Mary O’Brien and Marjola Nelson will present their questions to the panel of legislators and Ann Speyer, moderator and host, will oversee the discussion. Only the legislators and league hosts will appear on the screen.

State legislators whose district includes parts of New Britain will be present to conduct a panel discussion on current and ongoing issues. They include state Sen. Rick Lopes for the 6th Senate District, state Sen. Henri Martin for the 31st Senate District, Rep. William Petit for the 23rd House District, Rep. Manny Sanchez for the 24th House District, Rep. Bobby Sanchez for the 25th House District and Rep. Peter Tercyak for the 26th House District.

The event is open to the public and, according to Patricia Passehl Mag of the league, is a great opportunity for the people to get to know their lawmakers and talk about issues of concern, and for the legislators to share their visions for the future.

The women’s league hosts many political forums throughout the year. Last year, it hosted a wide-ranging legislative brunch discussion about political campaigns, minimum wage, education, tolls, consumer protection and the budget deficit.
