NEW BRITAIN -- A local boutique more than a year in the making was finally able to open its doors Saturday.
Natacha and Anise Saint Juste celebrated the grand opening of Saints By S.J. Boutique, located at 666 Arch St., among city officials and friends. The two sisters, who are co-owners, are both originally from New Britain and said they are proud to be able to bring something to the city where they grew up.
Though they signed the lease for the space in November 2019, the covid-19 pandemic caused a host of problems that forced the opening of the boutique to happen later than originally anticipated. Natacha and Anise Saint Juste, who both work for Hartford Healthcare, spent the better part of the last year fighting the virus from nine to five and working on getting their new storefront ready at night.
“We did the renovations by ourselves,” Natacha Saint Juste said. “It’s been a journey.”
The sisters have been designing clothing for years, and all the apparel in their store is no different. They designed it all, and it cannot be found in larger department stores.
Saints By S.J. Boutique can provide just the right look for proms or any kind of formal event. They offer custom orders, alterations and styling services.
“We want to be able to dress you for an event,” Natacha Saint Juste said.
Anise Saint Juste added that clothing can be customized “down to the thread” by taking measurements on a customer and tailoring the fit to them.
Mayor Erin Stewart welcomed the clothing designers to the city by joining them for the grand opening.
“We are so thrilled to have you here,” Stewart said.
The mayor encouraged both co-owners to keep in touch with city officials and let them know if they can assist with their new business in any way.
“We want to see you succeed,” Stewart said.
“You’re seeing a resurgence in boutique kind of stores, and we love them,” the mayor continued. “That’s what makes New Britain unique.”
