NEW BRITAIN – The Greater New Britain Chamber of Commerce and YWCA New Britain Wellness are partnering to host a new webinar.

The webinar, Empowered Self-Care, is for anyone who has been working during the pandemic and will take place Tuesday at 8 a.m. on Zoom.

“We’re very excited about it,” said Bill Moore, chamber president. “It’s really in response to making an effort to help people deal with the feeling of the pandemic. We’ve all been cooped up in our homes for over a year, many of us have not been meeting with people, and we’re in a general malaise over this lack of interaction and that has an impact on people’s well being both physically and mentally. So this program is basically designed to help you step back, take a deep breath, relax and take hold of the moment and get yourself ready to move forward.”

Heather Labbe, director of fitness and membership, and Sunny Swearsky, adult advocate for sexual assault crisis services at the YWCA, will be the presenters. During the webinar they will be providing tips and skills to help cope with working during the pandemic.

“The YWCA New Britain is creating a mindfulness department that will specialize in training regarding mindfulness and being trauma informed,” Labbe said. “So we are presenting trauma informed yoga and trauma informed mindfulness training.”

The fitness department at the Y and the Sexual Assault Crisis Services has created a number of these empowered workshops and presented them during lunch-and-learns to staff at the American School for the Deaf and will also be presenting to the Prudence Crandall Center staff.

“This is another opportunity to partner with the chamber to get this information out to the folks that are working that are just tired with the pandemic and have maybe come to the end of their personal or emotional resources,” Labbe said.

The webinar’s goal is to help ease the anticipation and anxiety.

“I guarantee those who do attend are going to walk away feeling great about themselves going out into the world,” Moore said.
