NEW BRITAIN – The Wheeler Family Health & Wellness Center and Genoa Healthcare will be joined by Mayor Erin Stewart and Representative Jahana Hayes (CT-5) for a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, July 6 to celebrate the move and expansion of Wheeler’s New Britain community health center.
The ribbon cutting will take place at 3:30 p.m., followed by remarks from Mayor Stewart, Representative Hayes, State Senator Rick Lopes, other legislative leaders and Wheeler Family Health & Wellness Center and Genoa Healthcare leaders.
The new location on 40 Hart St., is a 25,000 square foot building that allows Wheeler to provide the full continuum of services. It offers integrated primary care for children adolescence and adults including pediatric primary care; primary care for adults; women’s health care; chronic disease management for asthma, and diabetes. It also offers integrated behavioral health and outpatient services for children and adults including Individual, family, and group outpatient therapies; intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and psychiatric services, including psychiatric evaluations and medication management; and on-site pharmacy and laboratory services.
The event will include the opening of the new Genoa Healthcare pharmacy as well. Guests can partake in an open house and tour from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be light refreshments and more.
The new Genoa Healthcare pharmacy will be the fourth partnership inside a Wheeler community health center and the 16th Genoa location in Connecticut. Today, they have more than 580 pharmacies located onsite. Research shows that when pharmacy services are integrated with health care providers, people are more likely to obtain their prescriptions and stay on their medication plans. That lowers rates of hospitalization and emergency care and improves health care outcomes. Genoa Healthcare has been serving the behavioral health community for 20 years with comprehensive pharmacy services.
The Genoa Healthcare pharmacy at the Wheeler Family Health & Wellness Center is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Family Health & Wellness Center in New Britain is one of five Wheeler community health centers. Other facilities are located in Bristol, Hartford, Plainville, and Waterbury. As a federally qualified health center, Wheeler is part of a network of community health centers nationwide that provide affordable, accessible health care for more than 29 million Americans.
