New Britain woman killed in car accident in Newington

NEWINGTON -- A New Britain woman was killed in a car accident in Newington Tuesday evening.

Police on Wednesday identified the victim as Yvonne Constant. She was 55.

According to police, officers on Tuesday, around 7:22 p.m., responded to a car accident on Willard Avenue, north of New Britain Avenue. The crash involved a single motorist and Constant, who was a pedestrian.

Police said first responders attempted life-saving measures on Constant, who was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead.

The motorist involved stopped following the accident and remained on scene. The driver has not been publicly identified.

Police said the crash caused Willard Avenue, in the area of New Britain Avenue, to be closed for several hours as Newington officers and the Midstate Accident Reconstruction Squad investigated.
