NEW BRITAIN – Residents are welcomed to attend the annual Christmas Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony in December after the event had to be done virtually last year.

The City of New Britain and New Britain Downtown District will host a Christmas Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 7 from 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. In addition to the tree lighting ceremony, guests can enjoy refreshments and holiday music. Santa Claus will be at the event to take photos with children and families.

In the past, the city has had to accommodate upwards of 800 children.

Last year due to the pandemic, the Mayor’s Office hosted the event virtually. This year, residents will have the option to attend the event or watch from home. Families are invited to attend the event and registration is not required.
