NEW BRITAIN – Looking for something artsy and fun to do with the mother figures in your life? The New Britain Museum of American Art has curated a Mother’s Day Weekend filled with entertainment and special offers.

The museum is offering a full lineup of programs from May 6-8 for all ages designed for spending time with Mom.

Kicking it off on First Friday, May 6, will be two events. The Collaboration, the museum’s signature social event, will be from 5:30-8pm.

“It is New Britain’s best Happy Hour, since 1995,” NBMAA says. Guests can enjoy live music, food, art, spirits and an overall time with good friends.

There will also be an opportunity for Docent-led tours running concurrently to the museum’s First Friday concerts, from 6-6:30pm. Pre-registration is not required for these tours.

Saturday, May 7, from 10:30 a.m.-noon will be the Art Explorers program. Students ages 6-8 will learn to express their creativity using varied art methods and materials to create personal works of art inspired by museum pieces. They may make great gifts for mom or grandma.

From 11-11:45 a.m. join Art Start, a program that helps caregivers and young children ages 3-5 discover art together. Guests can listen to a story and then explore line, shape, color and other elements of art with teaching artist Margaret Freedman.

If you’re looking for a collage opportunity, drop-in for Piecing Together a New Britain Story: The NBMAA Cityscape Project from 12-2 p.m. led by artist Rashmi Talpade.

If you or mom are a skincare enthusiast, stop by the Art of Beauty: Skincare Workshop with Jodi from 12-2 p.m. Guests will learn the art of creating your own all-natural skincare products to refresh your mind, revive your body and renew your soul.

There will also be another opportunity for a Docent-led tour called American Masterpieces. From 1-2 p.m. guests can dive into highlights of the NBMAA’s permanent collection.

On Mother’s Day enjoy some late afternoon activities.

From 1-2 p.m. guests can tour through the NBMAA’s special exhibition The Poetry of Nature with a Docent-led tour. Or from 3-4 p.m. check out the Sunday Music Series, Women Composers on Flute & Guitar: Featuring Melanie Chirignan & Scott Hill. This is NBMAA’s longstanding monthly concert series, featuring local and regional performances from a variety of musical genres.

The New Britain Museum of American Art located on 56 Lexington Street.
