NEW BRITAIN – People of all ages will want to be downtown this Saturday, for a spectacle and for safety.

The City of New Britain is collaborating with Bike New Britain and the New Britain Downtown District to host its annual Bike Rodeo this Saturday at 11 a.m. in Central Park.

“Bicycling is a great way for people to get active in a low-cost, environmentally-friendly way,” Mayor Erin Stewart said. “This event provides residents with a chance to become more responsible bike riders so they can safely enjoy the nearly 53 miles of bike-friendly lanes and trails we have in New Britain all summer long.”

The purpose of the event is to educate residents on bike safety and promote biking as a healthy activity, but fun and entertainment will also be part of the show.

It is called a rodeo, after all.

Family-friendly activities will include a bicycle stunt show, a kids’ zone with games, free lunch, free helmet decorating, a bike helmet giveaway, a bike raffle, obstacle courses and bike safety checks with industry professionals.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive to the event on a bicycle or bring one with them, although this is not required.

Bikes will be available on-site for people to use if they want to participate in the obstacle courses or take part in another one of the day’s activities.

Registration is not required. Questions may be directed to CJ Gandza at 860-612-5006 or
