NEW BRITAIN – The Youth Leadership Council of New Britain in partnership with the New Britain Police Department and YWCA will be hosting its annual Back to School Youth Carnival this Saturday.

“This carnival is similar to July’s event but bigger because we do plan to give out book bags, free food and ice cream. We’ll have Connecticut’s Change the Script Resource van and there will be vending opportunities,” said Tyshaunda Wiley, prevention coordinator, New Britain Community Services.

From 4 to 7 p.m. at Chesley Park all are welcomed to enjoy live music, inflatables, carnival games, basketball and to receive some free school supplies.

“We appreciate donations of any size and accept money donations if school supplies are not doable,” the Youth Leadership Council of New Britain said. “We aim to provide to middle and high school students of New Britain with this event, thus age-appropriate backpacks and supplies are highly encouraged.”

This fun carnival for students of different ages, schools and backgrounds is the council’s way of giving back to the community by providing resources to youth that do not have access to them as students prepare to go back to school.

“We plan to make this a much larger event,” Wiley said. “We are looking for partnerships interested in financial responsibility to help with this event.”
