NEW BRITAIN - New Britain has decided to stay in-house to fill its vacant girls basketball head coach position.

On Wednesday afternoon, the district announced Marc Wesoly as the program’s new coach. The decision comes nine days after Kurt Reis was hired to be the boys basketball head coach.

Wesoly served as an assistant on former boys basketball head coach Todd Stigliano’s staff for the past two seasons. Prior to his arrival at New Britain, Wesoly was an assistant coach for the Plainville boys basketball program when they won the state championship in 2006 and then later was the head coach from 2008-14. During his six seasons leading the Blue Devils, Wesoly went 26-94 with one tournament appearance, which came during the 2010-11 season. Plainville went 9-11, becoming the 30th seed in Class M.

Wesoly already has some of his staff at New Britain in place with Symone Roberts as the freshman girls coach and Mike Jones as the JV girls coach.

In addition to basketball, Wesoly has also coached Newington High School JV girls volleyball team, Plainville girls softball team and was the freshman and assistant varsity baseball coach at Manchester High School.

Wesoly will be officially introduced this morning at New Britain High School, following a meeting with his players.
