NEW BRITAIN - The New Britain boys basketball came off its high from Saturday's game rather quickly.

The Hurricanes fell in a close battle to New London 53-52 Monday evening, snapping a three-game win streak in the process.

While both teams were tied 13-13 after the first eight minutes, the game was decided over the course of the second half.

Despite New Britain leading 28-20 at the break, the Whalers outscored the Hurricanes 31-24 over the final 16 minutes. New London finished the third quarter leading 17-13 and the fourth 14-11.

Senior forward Jahfari Newman led New Britain with 15 points while teammate Shamah Charles added 13.

The Hurricanes outscored the Whalers 15-7 to gain an eight-point lead going into the half, but that was the only lead they would see for the rest of the evening.

The Hurricanes will travel to Rocky Hill High School on Friday for their next matchup.
