NEW BRITAIN – After four seasons and a state tournament berth last year, New Britain girls basketball head coach Marc Wesoly announced that he was stepping down from his role on Sunday evening.
“[I] made the toughest decision I had to make recently,” Wesoly said. “I have stepped away from coaching at New Britain High School. Coaching here was such a pleasure and a dream come true.”
Wesoly guided the Hurricanes to the state tournament last season after back-to-back five-win seasons, making it the best he had since taking over as head coach. New Britain finished 11-9 last season, more win than the previous two seasons combined, and earned the No. 21 seed in the Class LL state tournament before falling to Conard. The team’s success marked the potential for the start of a turnaround for the program, but if that indeed happens, Wesoly won’t be at the helm.
“I was so proud of my players as they took my family and made them a part of my family,” Wesoly said. “That’s what I am going to miss most. I can’t wait to see their success and I will never forget the success we had. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and myself. It goes a long way.”
