The Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England announced its schedule for next summer on Tuesday, with all eight teams in the league scheduled for Opening Day on May 26.
The eight teams playing are the same from last season’s lineup, with local team New Britain Bees remaining in New Britain in its third season with the league since leaving the Atlantic League. Reigning champion and Organization of The Year the Vermont Lake Monsters lead the Bees, Nashua Silver Knights, Norwich Sea Unicorns, Pittsfield Suns, Worcester Bravehears and Westfield Starfires into the 2020 summer.
The FCBL successfully completed this summer amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, and were able to retain all teams through the season while successfully having a postseason. Over 243,000 fans attended games this summer.
The Futures League couldn’t be more excited to take another step towards the 2022 season with the announcement of our schedule,” Commissioner Joe Paolucci said. “All eight franchises are hard at work putting together another outstanding summer of baseball for our loyal fans throughout New England. We’re already looking forward to May 26.”
The regular-season schedule will run from May 26 until Sunday, Aug. 7, with the playoffs following immediately through Saturday, Aug. 13. With the exception of Memorial Day (May 31) and Independence Day (July 4), Mondays will remain league-wide off days throughout the summer.
New Britain’s season will kick off with an afternoon slate against Norwich at New Britain Stadium on the scheduled Opening Day.
The Bees will also host the mid-summer classic FCBL All-Star Game on July 26th, marking the second straight year the game will be held in New Britain. Last year’s battle of Future’s League stars drew more than 3,000 fans to New Britain Stadium.
After the regular season concludes on Sunday, Aug. 7, the four-team postseason bracket will include best-of-three series in both the semifinal and championship rounds. Vermont capped the 2021 season in title-winning fashion by defeating Pittsfield in the deciding game of a best-of-three series in front of a packed crowd in Burlington.
The “Home Run Derby Wins It” tiebreaker returns for the sixth consecutive season in 2022. As it has been since the inception of the Derby, all regular-season FCBL games tied after one extra inning will be decided with a shootout-style home run derby.
