NEW BRITAIN – The New Britain Golden Hurricanes are set to host the Danbury Hatters Friday night from Veterans Stadium in an attempt to get back on track in 2022.

The Hurricanes and the Hatters are two teams trending in different directions. New Britain came out with a strong rushing attack in Week 1 before being slowed down by Windsor in their home opener a week ago, losing 26-6.

In that game quarterback Donavan Campbell passed for 120 yards while the team only rushed for about 30.

Danbury is coming off a pair of big wins over Harding and Stamford to get themselves out to a 2-0 record. The Hatters have scored an average of 47 points through two weeks and have only allowed an average of 17.5 to opponents.

New Britain is going to look to be more physical in this game after head coach Isaiah Boddie thought that the team was severely outplayed in that category last Friday against Windsor.

Physicality and rushing look like they could be the deciding factor in this matchup as New Britain is very reliant on their veteran offensive line and their ability to help the running backs move the ball. In Week 1 the Hurricanes’ top-two backs, Cam Bond and Cayden Hill combined for 343 yards on the ground in their big win.

A week ago the Hatters also dominated on the ground over Stamford. Danbury notched eight rushing touchdowns in the win including four by John Bardin.

The message to Boddie’s team this week was all about getting back to the basics and responding in a positive way. Blocking, running hard and pad level were a few of the things Boddie highlighted after the loss to Windsor as things that they’ll need to regain their edge.

Records: Danbury 2-0, New Britain 1-1

The Breakdown

The rushing attack looks like it will be the most important factor for both teams on Friday night. Danbury’s offense has yet to see any resistance this season after a pair of big wins, and this game looks like it could go similarly. New Britain’s offensive line will be the thing to watch as they’ll need to provide their running backs room to work to be able to keep up with the Hatters’ offense. This could turn into a shootout if the Hurricanes can find their rhythm early to keep pace with their opponent.

Cameron Beall’s Prediction

Danbury 41, New Britain 25
