NEWINGTON - Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Thursday morning at a local convenience store.

Armed with a handgun, a lone male walked into the 7-Eleven at 461 New Britain Ave. around 5:30 a.m. and demanded an undetermined quantity of cash from the register.

The clerk and a single customer in the store were uninjured. The suspect was described as a medium-sized male wearing a mask, and his race could not be determined. He was also said to be wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, black gloves and sneakers.

The suspect fled from the store on foot in the direction of New Britain, according to the store employee.

“The clerk lost sight of him and doesn’t know if a vehicle was involved,” Newington police Lt. Nicholas Miano said Thursday morning.

The 7-Eleven has since reopened.

No suspects have been identified at this time. Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Newington Police Department at 860-666-8445.
