NEWINGTON - Residents, business owners, visitors or anyone with any ties to the town now have an eye-catching resource on the internet. It’s all Newington all the time on NewingtonCT.gov.
The URL may be the same as the old site, but visitors should have a much better experience, town officials say.
“We think that the new website is a dramatic improvement,” Town Manager Tanya Lane toldthe Town Council last week, before the site went live on Friday.
Users are greeted by a vibrantly colored background photograph that changes every few seconds and with the seasons. At the top of the page is an easy-access mega menu, a drop-down feature to locate one’s need among a multitude of options. A strip calendar on the bottom shows town meetings as well as community and library events happening during any particular week.
A mobile version of the page is also available for free from Google Play and Apple stores.
Councilors praised the work completed by town staff and the IT professionals hired to create the new site.
“This is an example of how well our town government can work without politicians,” Maureen Klett pointed out. “It’s a fine job you guys did.”
“It brings us to a whole different level; it’s awesome,” Carol Anest said.
Dave Nagel called the page a “tremendous improvement” over the one it replaced.
“At a glance it’s easier for users to get where they need to,” he added.
On the drop-down menu is the section “I want to…” with requests users may be have, including building inspection, waste disposal, contact with the mayor or submission of a complaint.
The “find” option connects the visito with everything from internships to parks and facilities, fair housing and transportation.
“One or two clicks can get you anywhere you need to go,” said Lane.
People who subscribe to the town’s email notification system have been transferred into the new system and should have received an alert this week confirming receipt.
