NEWINGTON - Police have a suspect under arrest in connection with a Friday armed robbery at the Game Stop at 2997 Berlin Turnpike.

According to a police report, at 10:34 a.m. Friday, officers were called to the store, where a store employee reported that a man, later identified as Nicholas Velazquez, entered the store and brandished a silver handgun.

The employee told police the robber demanded money, then bound his hands with zip ties and made him get on the floor face down behind the counter.

The employee said the suspect stole cash and merchandise from the store.

As the suspect tried to leave the store through a locked rear door, the employee was able to free himself and exit through the front door.

Once outside the store, the employee told witnesses to call the police. A short time later, the suspect came out through the store’s front doors and ran north along the Berlin Turnpike.

He was discovered by police hiding in thick brush just north of the plaza in which the store is located.

He was taken into custody without incident and processed at police headquarters. Further details are unavailable.
