NEWINGTON - A local woman is facing drunken driving and reckless endangerment charges after allegedly causing a crash while driving the wrong way on Route 9 early Friday.

State police were looking into a report of a wrong-way driver when witnesses reported that the car, driven by Wissam Moughanim, 24, of 201 Orchard Ave., had crashed into another car, officials said.

Moughanim was driving south in the northbound lane around 2 a.m., state police said, when she hit the front of a car driven by Maria Sido, 59, of Ellis Street, New Britain.

Neither woman was injured.

Police said Moughanim failed field sobriety tests and was charged with operating under the influence, traveling the wrong way, reckless driving and second-degree reckless endangerment.

She was released on $1,000 nonsurety bond and scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court April 5.
