Monday is opening day for Newington's public pools

NEWINGTON - Town pools open today and recreational swimming will be held at Mill Pond Pool and Churchill Pool daily, the town’s Parks and Recreation Department has announced.

Both pools will be open Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. for recreational swimming.  On Saturday and Sunday, the pools will be open from 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for recreational swimming.

Pool passes can be purchased at the Parks and Recreation office.  Admission fees without a pass are $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors.

Proof of Newington residency must be shown before entering the pool.

Additionally, swim lessons will take place Monday through Friday at Mill Pond Pool and Churchill Pool. The lesson times are 9-9:40 a.m., 9:45-10:25 a.m., 5-5:40 p.m. and 5:45-6:25 p.m.  

 Lessons run from June 25 to July 6, from July 9 to July 20 and from July 23 to August 3.

Group lessons are offered following the American Red Cross’ Learn-to-Swim program for ages 5 to 17.  For ages 6 months to 5 years, “Waterbabies” and preschool group lessons are available.

 Adult swimming lessons are offered from 5 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. from June 25 to June 29 and from July 16 to July 20.

Junior Lifeguarding is offered for ages 11 to 14 from July 9 to July 13 and from July 23 to July 27.

Registration for swimming lessons can be done at the Newington Parks and Recreation office.
