NEW BRITAIN - Police are looking for a man who allegedly broke into a woman’s home on Trinity Street late Monday night and assaulted her while she was sleeping.

Alvin Torres, 31, is accused of entering the apartment around 11:30 p.m., assaulting a woman with whom he had a domestic relationship, then restraining her so she couldn’t leave to call for help.

The woman was sleeping when she awoke to find Torres in the apartment, police said. She eventually was able to leave and called police.

Since responding officers were told that Torres, who is wanted by Bristol police on felony charges, had a knife and was threatening to attack anyone who came in to get him, the New Britain SWAT team was called in to help take him into custody.

Torres however was not at the address, having possibly slipped out before police could surround the building.

Police are now seeking an arrest warrant for Torres on domestic violence charges.

Police are seeking the public’s help in finding Torres. anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the department at 860-826-3000 or leave a tip on the Community Tip Line at 860-826-3199.
