NEW BRITAIN - A company that specializes in batteries and lighting is looking for a franchisee to open a store in the city within the next six months.

Rod  Tremelling, director of franchise development at Batteries Plus Bulbs said the company is looking to expand into Connecticut.

“We are looking for a franchisee in the area,”  Tremelling said. “We’ve identified New Britain as a viable area and are looking to expand and grow into the market.”

Tremelling added that New Britain has what the company is looking for in terms of socioeconomic demographic information and business count.

“We are a specialty retailer, we are looking to be in proximity to volume retail like Wal-Mart, Target, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Best Buy, and then place our store there as a result,”  Tremelling said.

Batteries Plus Bulbs will provide jobs for about eight people. Stores usually start with four employees.

It currently has three stores in Connecticut. The one in Manchester opened in June 2011 and the Newington location opened in June of this year. A store in Orange opened in 2012.

It takes about six months for a franchisee to open a location.

“During that time, we are looking for the location, helping them identify the appropriate space and lease negotiations, going through training programs and processes and helping them get up and operational,”  Tremelling said.

Stores are about 2,000 square feet.

The company specializes in “unique and difficult hard to find batteries and lighting as well as related items and services,” Tremelling said.

Wheelchair batteries, home security systems, emergency lighting, exit signs, and interruptible power supplies can be found at Batteries Plus Bulbs locations.
