NEWINGTON -- An errant motorist struck a local motel on the Berlin Turnpike early Friday.

The driver of the pickup truck, which sustained heavy front end damage, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The unit that was struck at the Friendly Acres motel was vacant at the time, and the area where the truck struck the brick wall was covered by a piece of plywood late Friday. An employee at the motel, at 1650 Berlin Turnpike, said it was open for business Friday.

The pickup truck left the parking lot area of the motel sometime before 6 a.m. Friday and collided with the one story unit. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
