NEWINGTON – Dog owners and dog lovers: this one’s for you.

The Town of Newington is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening of the Newington Dog Park on Tuesday, Sept. 13 beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Newington Parks and Recreation staff, Mayor Beth DelBuono, Town Manager Keith Chapman, members of the Town Council and members of the town’s Parks and Recreation Board will all be present.

The first 25 dogs to arrive will receive complimentary whipped cream “pup cups.”

There will also be raffles, refreshments and music.

The new park is located on John H. Stewart Drive, across from Hartford Healthcare’s Jefferson House. HHC donated use of the land for the dog park to the town at a lease of $1 per year.

Stonehenge Landscaping, the New Britain Fence Company and Laydon Construction contributed in-kind donations to build the fenced-in park.

There are two separate areas for large and small dogs.

Visiting dog owners must be able to provide proof of up-to-date rabies vaccinations and their dog license. They should also bring water for their dogs to drink and bags to discard waste.
