NEWINGTON – Hope Speaks, LLC, a counseling and wellness resource, is offering back-to-school support groups for individuals in the Newington and New Britain area who may be struggling with their mental health.
From Sept. 23-26, Hope Speaks will begin four different classes to provide students with a smooth transition into the 2022-2023 school year.
“Managing Emotions,” a 10-week series which begins on Sept. 23 and meets on Fridays from 6-7:30 p.m., will focus on creating healthy habits to reduce destructive tendencies while building skills to help better regulate emotions. According to the website, each participant will learn to "identify what we feel and why, learn to shift unwanted emotions so they are less overwhelming, decrease destructive behaviors, Emotional Regulation Skill Building and increase self-compassion.”
A teen social anxiety group will begin on Sept. 24 which focuses on decreasing levels of anxiety, learning skills to better cope in social settings, building confidence and connecting with others to create relationships and have fun. The group will meet on Saturdays from 10-11:30 a.m.
Starting on Sept. 26, a teen process group will begin which will offer students an opportunity to “receive psychoeducation about a variety of teen-related issues and will be invited to share what’s on their mind and in their heart if they choose to do so to process unburden themselves,” according to the website. The group will meet on Mondays from 4-5 p.m.
Hope Speaks will hold a group for middle school girls ages 11-13 on Mondays from 5:30-6:30 p.m., beginning on Sept. 26. According to the website, the meetings will function for young girls “to connect and learn tools to combat negative self-esteem and develop self-compassion.”
