NEWINGTON – Four firefighters are recovering after injuries sustained fighting a blaze Saturday at a building on Audubon Avenue.

Newington Volunteer Fire Lt. Kirk Rosemond said firefighters from Newington and Task Force 51 responded to the fire at 139 Audubon Avenue around 3:40 p.m.

“Upon arrival firefighters were met with heavy fire inside the garage and main dwelling,” Rosemond said. “Structures on either side suffered slight damage.”

The property’s garage, main house and multiple vehicles all sustained damage. Firefighters did not indicate if the buildings were inhabited.

Four Newington firefighters were injured while responding to the blaze and were transported to local hospitals by EMS.

As of Sunday morning, Lt. Rosemond said, all four had been treated, released and are doing fine.

The Newington Fire Marshal’s Office and State Police Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit are investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
