NEWINGTON – The 18th annual Master Police Officer Peter Lavery Memorial Motorcycle Run will take place this weekend, rain or shine.

Police have announced the route of the memorial ride, which will begin at Churchill Park and travel on Main Street and into Berlin before making its way into Rocky Hill, Cromwell, Middletown, Portland, Glastonbury, Wethersfield and back into Newington, where it will wrap up on Main Street at Churchill Park.

The 35-mile, leisurely motorcycle ride is expected to begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday and end around 11:15 p.m. The ride is held each year to honor Master Police Officer Peter Lavery, who was killed in the line of duty on Dec. 30, 2004, while responding to a domestic violence incident.

The police escorted ride is open to “all friends and supporters” of law enforcement, Newington police said.

Registration will be held from 8 to 9:45 a.m. at Churchill Park, at 1991 Main St. A $20 donation per motorcycle is requested, with all proceeds going to the Peter J. Lavery Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc.
