NEWINGTON - Kat Lagace twirled a gem and the Newington softball team’s offense gave her plenty of support on Wednesday afternoon in a dominant 13-0 win over Plainville.
Lagace went six shutout innings and allowed just one hit while striking out 11 Blue Devils. On offense Lagace added a triple, as did Cyan Gonzalez who finished the game 2-3 with three runs and two stolen bases.
Dani Pantano was another standout for the Indians in the win, the team’s sixth of the season, as she went 3-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Newington 213, Hall 219, Canton 241: The Indians didn’t have the medalist in the three-team meet but they had three of the top five scores to pull out the victory. Jessica Pierzchalski was the top scorer for Newington with a 48 while Taylor Kelly (51) and Chloe Bilodeau (52) followed closely behind. Hayley Lemke of Hall was the medalist as she shot a 45.
Newington 3, Glastonbury 1: The Indians dropped the first set on Wednesday evening but dominated the next two sets to take control and eventually took the match for their sixth win of the season at the halfway point. Evan Metzger led the way with 32 assists, while Andres Ithier-Vicenty led the team with 13 kills and Vinh Dau added five kills and 11 digs in the win.
