It was another good regular season for the area’s two boys volleyball teams, who once again find themselves in the mix for a state title.
Southington earned the fifth seed in a highly competitive Class L after a 17-2 season and the tournament does not get any easier. The Blue Knights will host 12th-seeded Danbury (12-5) on Wednesday. If Southington plays like it is capable of playing, it will either host No. 13 Xavier (9-10) or travel to No. 4 East Hartford (15-1) to take on the CCC champions in the quarterfinals.
Newington, meanwhile, will look to get back to the title game in Class M after missing a chance to win four titles in five years last season. The Indians (13-7) are the No. 4 seed and will have a first-round bye. They will host No. 5 Lewis Mills (11-7) in the quarterfinals. A meeting with No. 1 Joel Barlow (16-4) could be waiting in the semifinals should Newington win.
