There are plenty of newcomers on our All-Herald Girls Golf Team, but each rose to the challenge and proved more than capable of showing themselves to be some of the best in the region.

Newington overtook Berlin as the area’s top team this year after completing one of its best regular seasons in program history with a 12-2 record and a top-20 finish at the state tournament.

As such, the Indians placed two on our list.

Jessica Pierzchalski was Newington’s No. 1 golfer and it is easy to see why. The senior medaled in eight matches, all while finishing with the fifth lowest scoring average in the CCC and an 8.9 differential. The Indians’ two-time MVP, Pierzchalski earned all-conference honors and came in sixth in the CCC Championship with a score of 87. She plans on playing golf at either a Division I or II school next season.

Her teammate, Chloe Bilodeau, was not far behind. The senior had a stellar final season with Newington, earning her fourth straight all-conference and all-conference academic selections along the way. Bilodeau finishes her time with the Indians ranked in the top 10 of girls golfers in the school’s history. She is considering playing golf in college.

It was a down year in terms of Berlin standards, due to graduation losses, but the Redcoats had plenty of strong performances, most notably from standout Jackie Cooper. The junior finished with a 9.48 differential and placed in the top 10 at the CCC Championship. She also had a top-30 finish at the state tournament. Cooper earned herself an All-CCC honor, and with another year to go, could be even tougher to contend with next season.

The final member of our team is New Britain’s Ava Morell. The Hurricanes did not win many matches in 2017, but the senior was consistently the top performer for her team, earning all-conference recognition. For a New Britain program still in the process of building, Morell will be tough to replace.

While our All-Herald Girls Golf Team is filled with plenty of new faces as compared to year’s past, this team has showed it can complete with anyone.
