ROCKY HILL - For the second time in as many seasons, the Newington 12U Little League All-Stars are district champions.

Newington captured the District 7 crown with a come-from-behind 8-6 win over West Hartford on Monday.

Down 5-0 heading into the fourth inning, JT Gallinoto sparked Newington’s offense with a three-run home run, while Vinnie Maslauskas hit a solo shot to cut the deficit to 5-4.

Newington then took the lead for good with a two-run single by Maslauskas in the sixth with other key hits coming from Bryan Gilliam, Gabby Tirado, Nick Gagliardi, Andrew Bugnacki and Alex Cappelucci.

Bugnacki then came on in relief to pitch the final 3 1/3 innings, surrendering just one run to West Hartford.

Prior to the start of the All-Star tournaments, there were over 175 teams eyeing the title of CT champions and a possible berth in the Little league World Series in Williamsport, PA.

Newington has earned a spot in the final 12 remaining teams and will continue to play its way to Williamsport in Waterford.
