GUILFORD - The Newington Little League all-stars will get a second - and, they hope, a third - chance to defeat defending state champion Fairfield American Little League after cruising past Ellington 15-0 in an elimination game on Sunday morning.

Newington had previously beaten Ellington by a 12-0 score in their state championship opener on Friday and will now take on Fairfield American - which defeated Newington 5-4 on Saturday - for the second time in the double-elimination tournament on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Adams Middle School in Guilford.

Newington must win on Monday to force a winner-take-all final game for the state championship on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the same location. If Newington loses today, Fairfield American will become state champion for the sixth time in the past eight years and advance to play in the New England Regional to be held in Bristol. The winner of the New England Regional advances to the Little League World Series.
