Sports Roundup: Berlin girls volleyball beats Hartford Public as Kennedy earns first win as head coach

NEW BRITAIN - Megan Kennedy finally has her first win as the Berlin girls volleyball head coach.

The Redcoats swept Hartford Public 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-19) Monday night. Berlin had lost its first four matches of the season.

The Redcoats played well defensively Sami Fasciano had 12 kills, one block and four digs; Cara Wade had seven aces, eight digs, and three kills; whereas Alyssa Dumont finished with kills and two aces.

Goodwin Tech 3, Grasso Tech 0: Goodwin Tech continues to roll through the early part of its schedule. The Gladiators swept Grasso Tech 3-0 (25-7, 25-6, 25-10) to move to 4-0 on the season. Playing well were Goodwin Tech were Liena River who had 17 service points, 11 aces and 5 kills, and Joarielys Pino who finished with 11 service points and 7 aces.

Platt 3, Newington 0: The Indians earned their second loss of the season after falling to the Panthers. Newington played close in all three games its lost, but was never able to close out a set, dropping the three 25-19, 25-22 and 25-20. Meghan Roberts had eight kills and Blayne Wanner-Hyde 19 digs. This leaves Newington 3-2 in the season.
