NEW BRITAIN - The Southington girls swim team suffered its first loss of the season to Hall on Wednesday, 93-77.
The Blue Knights’ Olivia Fournier won the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle as one of the standout performers for Southington.
Meghan Hammarlund took first in the 100 backstroke and Julie Duszak finished first in the 100 breaststroke.
The 200 medley relay took first place with Maddie Symecko, Fournier, Hammarlund and Duszak swimming in it.
The Blue Knights will travel to Farmington for a meet on Friday.
New Britain 3 East Catholic 0: New Britain received an outstanding performance from Raven Jarrett in the front row. She finished with 16 kills.
With limited serving errors in the match, the Golden Hurricanes rolled with scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-13. Nelanie Velez added 24 assists and Charliann Tendraza led the way serving, winning 13 service points and no errors.
With the win, New Britain qualified for the state tournament.
RHAM 3, Newington 0: Newington struggled at home against RHAM, getting swept in three sets. For the Indians, Blayne Wanner-Hyde and Meghan Roberts had big performances but it wasn’t enough.
Newington will travel to face 5-4 Bristol Eastern on Friday.
Southington 3, Platt 0: Southington advanced to 8-1 with the win over Platt. Sarah Myrick and Haley Larrabee both had strong games with 9 and 8 kills.
Steph Zera contributed 34 asssits for the Blue Knights.
Southington will travel to E.O. Smith on Friday.
Goodwin Tech 3, Prince Tech 0: The Gladiators once again had strong service points leading to the victory over Prince. Leina Rivers led the way with 13 service points.
Tanija Russell added 10 service points of her own for Goodwin Tech.
As a team the Gladiators combined for 19 kills.
Goodwin Tech will host Cheney Tech on Friday.
Berlin 3, Northwest Catholic 2: In a hard fought match on each side, Berlin escaped with a win.
For Berlin, Cara Wade led the way and made sure her team wouldn’t lose.
Berlin will host Windsor on Friday.
Aerospace 2, Goodwin Tech 1: The winless Gladiators hung in there with a strong Aerospace team. Goodwin Tech’s goalie Ayad Algahmi did everything he could to keep his team in the game with 22 saves.
Unfortunately, the Aerospace defense played too strong for the Gladiators to even up the game at 2-2.
Goodwin Tech will travel to 5-2-1 Windham Tech today for another tough game.
Bristol Central 1, Newington 0: Newington struggled to find any offense against the Rams. Neither side could generate much offense but it was Bristol Central that came out on top.
The Indians will travel to face RHAM on Friday.
