SEYMOUR - PLAINVILLE - Dane Stephens hat trick lead the Plainville boys soccer team to its 6-0 victory past Seymour, and its advancement to the Class M tournament Monday afternoon.
The Blue Devils took the lead early on, going into the half 3-0. Alongside Stephens, Jake Hillburn found the back of the net twice while, Tyler Miller scored once. Matt Violett collected two assists on the night, while Mike Torres, Mark Gniabeak each had one. Sergio Zalvidar had one save on goal.
With its 8-6-3 record, the 23rd-seeded Plainville will travel to Haddam-Killingworth Wednesday for round-two of the tournament.
Southington 2, Conard 1: Eli Rodriguez put up the first goal in the back of the net to set the mood for the Southington boys soccer 2-1 over Conard Monday night. Southington improves its record 10-5-2 as they advance in the Class LL tournament.
Hayden Burbank and Cameron Orentas also had goals for Plainville; Kieran Kindall has one assist, while Evan Doddona had six saves on the evening.
This is the third time that the Blue Knights have seen the Chieftains this season.
“From a familiarity standout, we knew a lot of about them, key players, style of play,” Southington head coach Tim Brown said. “To play them a third time is difficult and I’m proud of the way our guys handled that.”
The Blue Devils will play the No. 2 Glastonbury on Wednesday.
Newington 3, East Hartford 1: The Newington girls volleyball team will advance in the Class LL tournament after beating East Hartford 3-1 (25-15, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-22) Monday evening.
Libero, Blayne Wanner-Hyde lead the Indians with 17 digs while Meghan Roberts and 16 kills and two blocks.
With its 15-7 record the No. 11 Newington will play the sixth-seeded Greenwich on Thursday.
