HARTFORD - The Newington girls basketball team climbed above the .500 mark for the season with a 78-46 victory at Hartford Public on Thursday night.
The teams were tied at 17 after the first quarter, but the Indians pulled ahead 38-25 by halftime and 61-34 after three quarters.
Ashanti Frazier led Newington (3-2) with 24 points, while Gio Rivera (12 points), Abby Flores (9), Kayla Flores (8), Erika Cuevas (7) and Lexi Harris (7) were also key contributors.
Hartford Public (0-4) was led by Janai Oliver’s 22 points.
Goodwin Tech, 76, Wilcox Tech 65: The Gladiators won their second straight game to open the season, rebounding from a slow start - trailing 14-5 after the first quarter - to pull away in the middle part of the game for a win at home.
Goodwin Tech was led offensively by Francisco Santiago (24 points), Josh Peeples (20), Xavier Cartagena (19) and Luis Aguiar (10). Wilcox Tech was led by DeJuan Ransom’s 24 points.
