NEWINGTON - Scoring as of late appears to be the Newington-Berlin ice hockey teamâ€™s specialty.
Fresh off an 11-0 win Saturday, the Indians didnâ€™t miss much of a beat Wednesday night as they beat Shepaug-Litchfield-Thomaston-Nonnewaug 6-1.
And the win was mostly thanks to another strong start as Newington-Berlin began the game with a four-goal first period.
Matt Lavoie netted the first goal of the night and was soon followed by Joe Fogarty, Mark Sweitzer and Andrew Graham.
The Indians added two more goals - one in each the second and third periods. Pat Doherty provided the score to bring the score up to 5-0 before Caven Brenner scored Shepaugâ€™s lone goal of the night.
But Graham netted his second score of the night in the final period. Adam Belair saves for of five shots in net for the Indians, who managed 53 shots in the game.
With the win, Newington-Berlin moves to 5-0 on the season.
Bristol Central 51, Berlin 27: The Redcoats fell to the Rams only winning five matches on the evening. During the 122-pound match Tyler Barber was decided over Colton Pelletier 5-3. During the 134-pound match, Dan Veleas pinned Luke Schillina in 1:52.
Â Josh Veleas pinned Jasper Manka during the 172-pound match and Aiden Oâ€™Connor pinned Oriando Baldwin in 1:59. Max Schlein won the final match for Plainville as he pinned Jacob Salienis in 1:56 during the 197-pound match.
Maloney 54, Plainville 21: The Plainville wrestling team lost to Maloney Wednesday evening. The Blue Devils only game out with a couple wins including Esteban Torres wrestled the entire way through with Maloneyâ€™s Anthony Lafogg during the 138-pound match. It was a 9-8 decision that would favor for Torres.
Â During the 160-pound match, Alex Hernandez of Plainville pinned Robert Plumberg in 53 seconds. Plainville is currently 5-5 on the season.
New Britain 49, Conard 24: It was an easy win for the Hurricanes as Elijah Watson, Raul Mateo and Elijah Torres each pick up match win.
