NEW HAVEN - Area boys swimming and diving teams concluded their seasons on Saturday at the State Open, held at Yale University.
Southington finished tied for 22nd overall with 68 points, while Berlin was 31st with 28 points and Newington was 42nd with 11 points. Neither the Bristol co-op nor Plainville had anyone competing.
Southington’s 200 medley relay team of Tyler Heidgerd, Brendon Egan, Evan Bender, and Alex Kuhr finished 18th with a time of 1:41.92. The Blue Knights’ 200 free relay team of Brian Egan, Brendon Egan, Quint Kimmel and Alex Kuhr finished 15th with a time of 1:31.44
Southington’s Tyler Heidgerd finished 14th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.47, while Chase Galayda finished 11th in diving - in competition Thursday night at Bulkeley High - with a score of 428.00.
For Berlin, junior Connor Recck placed 15th in the 100 freestyle (48.67) and 21st in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.46), while the Redcoats’ 200 freestyle relay of Recck, Andrew Leary, Peter Cugno and Kiernan Jennings placed 19th in 1:31.77.
The lone competitor for Newington was senior Robert Nagy, who placed 16th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.70.
