All-State teams announced, placing 26 area athletes on list

NEW BRITAIN - The Connecticut High School Coaches Association revealed its All-State selections for the spring season. In total, 26 players from the New Britain and Bristol areas were chosen.

For softball, Southington led all local teams with three selections. Making the list for the Blue Knights in Class LL were Kara Zazzaro, Abigail Lamson and Francesca Ferrante.

Also making the Class LL team are Newington’s Cyan Gonzalez and Bristol Eastern’s Erin Girard.

In Class M, Berlin’s Lindsey Walsh was the lone representative.

In baseball for Class LL, Will Homar (New Britain), Gunnar Johnson (Newington) and MacGregor Goulet (Bristol Eastern) were each named All-State.

In Class S, the two representatives from St. Paul were Ryan Greene and Julian Thayer.

The Blue Knights also led the list for the CHSCA Outdoor Track and Field All-State First Teams.

Amanda Howe made the first team for shot put, discus and hammer throw during the Class LL state meet as well as the State Open.

But not only did Howe make All-State, she was also named Girls Field Athlete of the Year.

Her teammates, Megan Biscoglio and Janette Wadolowski, also earned All-State recognition. Biscoglio was All-State in pole vault and was All-Academic, while Wadolowski was recognized for her performances in javelin.

Next on the list is Berlin’s Patricia Mroczkowski in the high jump event. Mroczkowski made All-State for her both her performances at the State Open and the Class M meet.

The Redcoats’ 4x100m relay team of Lexi Kavarsky, Noelle Konior, Maxine Muscatello, Nikki Xiarhos was also name All-State.

For Bristol Central it was Dathan Hickey in the long jump and Shy-Ann Whitten in the high jump.

The final member apart of the CHSCA Outdoor Track and Field All-State First Team is New Britain’ Rozalynn Smith. She made All-State for her performance in the triple jump during the Class LL meet.

Berlin was the only boys lacrosse team to have any of its players receive All-State honors. Junior Tyler Ralph made Second Team All-State as an attackman, while junior Jack Lombardo was Second Team All-State on defense.

In boys volleyball, Newington standouts Leonel Caceres and Dan Cloutier both made the All-State team.
