The CIAC outdoor track and field season closed out Wednesday wrapping up the season with steeplechases, hammer throws, heptathlon and decathlons.
In the 2,000 meter steeple, Natalie Popielarz of Bristol Central ran a time of 8:00.13 for 14th fastest. The quickest in the area was Southington’s Diane Pillsbury, clocking a seventh-best time of 7:40.26.
Southington classmate Jessica Lombardo 11th with a clocked a time of 7:55.93 and Newington’s Katie Bohlke was clocked at 7:42.51 for eighth. They were both the fastest freshmen in the event.
In the hammer throw, Rosanni Gonzalez placed eighth with a distance of 104 feet even.
No area girl competed in the heptathlon. Mariella Schweitzer of Joel Barlow won the girls heptathlon, scoring 3,975 points.
The boys 2,000 meter steeplechase saw Logan Miceli of Southington clock a time of 8:23.83 for the 20th quickest ni the field.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Bristol Central’s Francis Porrini was seventh at a time of 10:19.25. Southington’s Evan Kristopik was in the field as well, clocking an 18th-best time of 11:11.63.
In the boys hammer toss, Southington’s Matthew Geary had a distance of 129-04 for ninth. Teammate Brendan Borkowski was 17th at 104-06.
In the decathlons, Newington’s Daniel Ellis competed and was 43rd with 1,926 points.
Ellis was 26th in the 100 meter dash, bested by teammate Eric Williams’ time of 11.77 for ninth.
In the 400, Ellis was 27th at 57.14. He did not run in the 1,500 and the 110 meter hurdles.
In high jump he cleared a height of 5-00.25 with Williams, both tying for 30th.
Ellis fouled on all three attempts of the long jump, scoring no points for the event. Williams jumped 17 feet, 5 1.2 inches for 37th.
Both competed in shot put as well, with Ellis throwing the shot 27 feet, 3 ¼ inches for 42nd. Williams tossed it 33 feet, 5 ¼ inches for 13th.
Winning the boys decathlon was Eamon Sweeney of Haddam-Killingsworth, scoring 6,365 points.
