Twenty one area players crack all-CCC baseball team

Twenty one local high school baseball players representing five different schools made this year's Central Connecticut Conference all-conference team.

New Britain and Berlin each placed five players on the team, Newington and Southington saw four players make it while Plainville produced three players.

Chris Gibbs, Elian Gonzalez, Leandro Guzman, Yan Hernandez and Jomar Rodriguez qualified for the Hurricanes. New Britain lost to Ridgefield during the first round of the Class LL state tournament to finish the season 13-8. The Hurricanes earned first place in the North Colonial Division, going 8-1 in region play.

Also in the North Region, the Nor'easters saw Shaun Callahan, Alex Cappellucci, Connor Daly and Zach Nakonechny earn slots.

Newington made it to the quarterfinal round of the state tournament as the 10th seed, before falling to McMahon. The Nor'easters trailed only New Britain in the North Colonial Division with a 6-3 region record and finished 18-6.

The Class L state runner-up Berlin Redcoats placed Sal Distoli, Connor Gileau, Matt Kozak, Kasey Oullette and Jamie Palmese on the South Region team. Berlin went a perfect 10-0 in the South Colonial Division region competition and concluded with a 21-4 overall clip.

In the same division, Tyler Bonney, Alec Couture, Brennan Staubley were chosen from Plainville. The Blue Devils lost in the first round of the Class M tournament to Rockville for an 8-12 final record.

Plainville tied Lewis Mills for third in the South Patriot Division with a 4-5 region record.

Lastly, Devan Bade, Dante D’ Amore, Jack McManus and Devin Pelletier were the Southington players selected on the West Region team

The top-seeded Blue Knights were shocked by Ridgefield in the second round of the Class LL tournament and finished 20-2. Southington also boasted a 10-0 record while competing in the West Colonial Division.
