SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Newington's own Michael Bohlke raced in the Eastbay Cross Country Championship on Saturday, placing 24th in the field at a time of 15:53.1.
After a top-10 finish in the Northeast Regional, he earned the spot in the meet. Bohlke was one of the top runners out of Connecticut, clocking a time of 15:29 in the State Open for fourth.
Among other Connecticut boys runners in the field was Gavin Sherry of Conard, who took third in the Eastbay race at a time of 15:17.3. Through the 2 1/2 mile marker, Sherry was narrowly in the lead, running with four others, before falling back in the final mile.
Aidan Puffer of Manchester was 13th in the pack, clocking a time of 15:33.9. East Lyme's Luke Anthony (26th, 15:53.7) also raced in the field of 40.
Riley Hough from Hartland High School in Michigan was the leader and boys champion. He finished in a blistering time of 15:11.4.
In the girls race, Natalie Cook of Flower Mound, Texas had a time of 17:15.0 to win the girls championship. No Connecticut-born runners were entered into the 38-person field on Saturday. Two runners did not finish or start.
