Roundup: Newington, Goodwin Tech girls basketball cruise in wins

RIDGEFIELD – Newington’s girls basketball rolled past Newtown Monday night, winning 51-20 in the Tyler Ugolyn Memorial Tournament.

Both sides went even through the first quarter at 6-6 before Newington ran off a shutout in the second quarter, gaining a 15-point lead entering halftime. From there, Newington extended and cruised to a win with Lily Ferguson leading all scorers with 19 points. She also had four blocks.

Bella Cucuta also had seven points with Selah Prignano grabbing six rebounds.

Newtown was led in scoring by Chloe O’Connell with seven points.

The next game for Newington will come in the tournament championship against Ridgefield at 5 p.m. Wednesday night.

Goodwin Tech 44, Wilcox Tech 10: Goodwin Tech girls basketball rolled to a win Monday night, winning 44-10.

Megan Lukeszewski led in scoring, connecting from 3-point range three times to lead all scorers with 13 points. Ericka Aponte had eight points and Avalise Hernandez had seven points in the win.
